The Somali government has taken full control of the Bakool region in the north of the capital Mogadishu after it captured the last town of Tiyeeglow. This has been a strategic town for the al-shabaab militants – who used it to collect revenue from transporters and other road users. The African Union peacekeeping troops (AMISOM) claim that the Al-shabaab militants did not put up any resistance. Several Alshabaab fighters surrendered and were handed over to the government.
