Taxpayers will have to pay more into the security budget after the classified expenditure of the ministry of Defence more than doubled from the 2012/2013 Financial Year. During debate on the defence ministry’s policy statement in Parliament on Friday afternoon, it emerged that the ministry will need 300 billion shillings in the 2013/2014 Financial Year compared to the 122 billion shillings it used up in the previous year. The Chairperson of the parliamentary committee on Defence and Internal Affairs, Mubende Woman MP Benny Namugwanya Bugembe asked the Auditor General to conduct a thorough audit on classified expenditure to ensure value for money. Sheila Nduhukire has that report from Parliament.
